David Shands= Painter of Pictures with Words

2012 was a turning point year for David Shands, who was a hybrid in the making.

He was an employee in service industries before he fully embraced his hybrid talents, a combination of inspirational speaking, translating words into pictures, being a fashion designer, and a founder.

In a post on his instagram profile, he wrote:

”One of the lowest points in my life was when I considered giving up on my dreams to pursue a career at my job. I felt like maybe it’s just not my purpose to be an entrepreneur. I tried and failed so many times, it just wasn’t worth it anymore. ⁣

That night I struggled with if this was what I really wanted to do. The next day I went up to my boss and inquired about the management position and he told me I was be an awesome candidate for that job. He said he would get back with me in a couple weeks. ⁣

Thank God he never got back to me.”

Back in 2010, David was working at the Cheesecake Factory while running his passion business on the side. He had an apparel company called Sleepis4Suckers, which was a t-shirt brand, and he wasn’t sure if he should go after his vision full-time. But, as he said, his boss never got back to him.

For David, Sleepis4Suckers is a philosophy, a way of life, an idea, a thought process, and it’s about time management, goals, and sleep. He wants people to buy his clothes because they make people think. David’s not creating a lifestyle brand, he’s creating a movement.

As a hybrid professional, David creates apparel and accessories to remind and uplift his followers about a new way of life—one where people can achieve their goals, build their dreams, and secure financial success.

Importantly, his tagline reads:

David works to inspire and uplift many with his brand tag line “If you lose sleep doing what you love, you will eventually live the dream that you only would have dreamt”.

Today, he runs a top-rated podcast, has a thriving brand, and is motivating young black men and other minorities to gain financial literacy and learn how to follow their dreams, and yes, it includes learning about the power of sleep.
